This lecture-capture article hit OLDaily today and I followed the link through to find the actual survey at UW E-Business Institute.
Check out the questions on page 8. Talk about leading the witness!
I’m still skeptical about this study. There’s too much spin.

This study still blowns my mind. It should be illegal to give a survey with such bias and bs. One of the surverys key findings was that students value having course materials after the completion of the course. They want to be able to access the materials in their professional life. WHATEVER!!! More than likely most students will not even look at the material when their class is over. I know that I had many undergrad classes that I just took because I had to. There were several of those classes that had nothing to do with my professional career. These students are giving them answers they want to hear so they don’t have to get their lazy tushes out of bed and go to class. The question the students were asked to get their answer was “would you value having access to the lectures after the course ends”? What are they going to say, no? Of course they said yes. I wonder what the response would have been if the question would have been more open ended and the students had to come up with an answer/solution for themselves. Actually getting to see the questions involved in the surveys makes it so much clearer as to how this university got the results. It really is an eye-opener as to how surveys can be manipulated to get certain results. It’s acutally pretty scary.

I still believe that this will make college students more likely to not worry about missing class. They will not have to worry about getting information about what was missed, they will always have it in the palm of their hand!! I couldn’t have said it any better Elizabeth….I agree totally.
