Will Richardson pointed me to this.
Mob Rules (The Law of Fives)
Because you all need to earn a living. But this world we’re entering is so chaotic, so accidental and unplanned for, everything we believe to be absolutely true is about to be severely tested.
Unexpected. Unprecedented. Read it. Think about what this means in relation to the class we’re just wrapping up. Think about what it means that “The network regards heirarchy as a failure and routes around it” in the light of school as heirarchy.
Yes, people, there WILL be a final exam.
But I’m not giving it.

[...] In reading the post on Phaedrus about the mob , I found I had to keep reading it over in order to understand what was being said. Basically, I had trouble figuring out what the mob was. I think, though, that it means a mob of people who are all using the network. I wrote a comment on the post, but didn’t submit it because I wasn’t sure if I knew enough to even comment. I’m sure no one else felt that way, but I just couldn’t get a handle on it. [...]

[...] The Power of the Mob November 19, 2007 Filed under: EDUC 685 — remonzer @ 1:38 am Just finished reading http://durandus.com/phaedrus/2007/11/17/mob-rules-the-law-of-fives/ and kind of wish I had read it before I posted my previous blog about the idea of things basically remaining the same even if a change has taken place because now I’m thinking that the changes described in Mob Rules (The Law of Fives) cannot be linked to much of anything that we have known before. The idea that technology changes so fast and updates so quickly that so-called authority figures and corporations can’t get a handle of it long enough to regulate it is fascinating and, I think, revolutionary. To think that a network of people all over the world - the mob, so-named in the blog - who understand the technology and have the equipment to utilize it will construct (more accurately, are constructing) and constitute an assembly that is as powerful as a governmental institution is an interesting thought, to say the least. Even though, this body is working together to work around any perceived threat of control by another body, it seems like just due to human nature that sooner or later friction is bound to arise among the power heads from whatever place they arise. Then, I wonder if one group will band against another. I sure hope all this does lead to more open source… [...]

[...] MOB rules I meant to post this yesterday, but due to the Saturday’s business draining me of all my energy I’m posting it today. Interesting blog on phaedrus’s blog. The mod in this article is referring to the many people out there in the world who are using the content. The reference to the mob refers to those users out there who are using the net to meet their needs, whatever those needs might be. Some of those needs questionable, which may be the reason why they’ve been labeled the mob. [...]
