[...] In reviewing my posts from the last couple of weeks, I realized that I’ve neglected to share my views on the role of teacher. Here’s what I said last year and I think I still believe this: The Teacher My thinking is that there really is only one role for teacher — to serve as a bridge between the learner and knowledge. There are other things that a person might do for/with a learner that, while part of the human relationship, are not part of teaching. While this may seem an unnecessary splitting of hairs, what I’m trying to accomplish here is a precise construction of Teacher. [...]

A teacher plays many roles in a student’s life. He/she serves as an educator, tutor, mentor, guidance counselor, advisor, etc. I have never considered a teacher to be a bridge. However, I understand the connection and agree.

The teacher is a bridge between the learner and the knowledge. The teacher must associate the learning experience directed by the context with the learner. By providing a bridge he/she will afford a lifelong learning experience.

To be a successful teacher one must possess many personal attributes and characteristics. A teacher must comprise a broad knowledge of the subject area in which they are hypothesizing. Not only knowledge is important but skills to present the material in a comprehensible way. Planning and organization are essential to remain on top of things. He/she must have great communication skills and have a warm empathy with the students. It is imperative to project enthusiasm in the classroom. The main objective is to have fun while you teach and learn. Don’t be too serious. Inspire the students to have confidence. Convince them that they will succeed. Turn the “I think I can” statements into “I know I can” proclamations.
