Last Outpost Status
September 3rd, 2009 by Bent
I’ve gotten one comment already, so let me share what I know of the situation.
After 17 years of running Last Outpost, Rahjiii is taking a much needed break from the game. The break will be at least a month long, and possibly longer. After such a long run, he certainly deserves a lot of respect for the work and for keeping it going this long.
The jury is still out on whether or not he’ll bring it back again. With all the competition from more graphically oriented games, MUD technology is certainly one that is not getting a lot of attention these days and perhaps it’s time to move on.
As for me, I work in the 3d worlds as well, but there is something satisfying about having a text based game — especially a world that has been so thoroughly and rigorously thought out as Last Outpost — to play in.
Thank you, Rahjiii, for all your hard work and dedication. Know that your efforts are treasured and the experience is one that I will treasure.
Hey man, I’m an old player who is mostly inactive. Thanks a ton for your update, as I have been a once-a-month user for the last 2 years or so and am, as such, mostly out of the loop. Quick question: would it be possible to pass along Rahj’s email address (the one he used publicly on the mud–if there is one)? I’d really like, if nothing else, to send him a quick thank-you email for all the good times. Thanks again.
Drew
All I have is the address he left here on a comment, but I’ll forward your comment to him.
Hey, long time player from back in 1995. Rahjiii did wonders for a lot of us while in university/college, he made our time in school just fly by.
Props to you Rahj!
Wonder if the old Last Outpost website code could live on durandus.com too? A lot of those scores are still referenced within my friends and it has helped settle a lot of arguments between us:
Zex/umm lots more
Hawk/Bloodrose/lots more
Bubba
I don’t have the time to play anymore but I remember fondly 24 hour runs to own the mud.. the Tower runs.. Guard runs.. Temple runs.. clan runs..
All the best guys

Hey guys,
thanks for putting this mud blog up, ive been clueless as to why the mud was all of a sudden gone. it saddens me greatly to see this place down as i log into it regularly at work when i have some down time. i think that if anything it should continue to stay up as a living monument to everything that it has done for the gaming industry. who knows if WOW would be WOW today if not for muds like LO. all i know is that this place deserves to live on and carry on. although some may not want to admit it, it is still relevant in todays time. text based MMO’s will always be great because they are own and made by the people, not big corporations. in conclusion, i hope this place comes back.

I have played off and on over the years starting back around 1997. I have not been on in awhile and was wondering if it was still off-line. If it is up and running I am having problems connecting. I was really hoping that it was still going and would like to start playing again. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Current status is : Not at this time.
I’ve offered several options to Rahjiii but he’s not responded yet.
Wow thanks for the fast response. I am sure that I’m not the only one that is sad to hear that. I think that The Last Outpost is shear genius compared to anyother text based games that I have ever played. I think of the game like books and radio. No-matter what technology is out there it will never go out of style. You can add my name to the list of supporters for bringing it back up.
Hey, Bent.
I’m one old fellas back from 92-95. I wanted to throw my name into the mix. If it’s a question of resources, let me know.
Man I miss this game, from the bottom of my heart. Even though early on I complained a lot, I feel that my later experiences put a slight impression on this game, and it certainly made a hell of an impression on my gaming world. Even though I’m fairly new to the world, only having a few years’ experience in it, yet it was one the most compelling games I’d ever played in my history of gaming passion.
Even though it’s over it won’t be forgotten. I made many friends there, and even enemies who eventually(I feel, anyway) came to respect me as a devoted player.
Near the end it was sketchy, but I longed to fight the epic battle that everyone anticipated.
The Last Outpost has absolutely been a huge part of my gaming experience, and I’ll never forget the imagination it prompted and spurred on, even in the short time(compared to most) that I played.
Thank you guys for an incredible experience. I hope this may be only a temporary withdrawal from MUDs, as I feel that as long as someone has faith in it, it will live on.
Keep it fly.
Finally info on the greatest game ever made. It saddens me to hear that the game might never be back but that possibility that it might is cheerful. I didn’t play the game as long as others but it made Jr. high so much better. I can honestly say that i miss running guards and elms, nothing like a large group of people killing random things. So here’s one more person who wishes the game would come back for good.
Former midnight warrior Paint,
