On the Tick…
October 22nd, 2006 by Chert
Life in the MUD is not without time. Every so often there’s “a tick of the clock” and anything that is based on time is updated. For warriors like me, that means I heal up a bit and gain my movement points back some. It means that anything I’m fighting has also healed a little. It means I’m a little closer to being hungry or thirsty, and it means that the area I’m in might reset itself — called a re-pop for re-population.
Each tick in the Outpost is an hour. The days are 24 hours long and you get a little warning before the sun goes down and just before it comes up. (Pay attention to lighting because being in the dark without a light is hard.) The ticks last about 3 minutes. (See comment below for the RIGHT information.) They seem much longer if you’re waiting for them.
That’s really all there is to the tick. It’s the heartbeat of the MUD and allows the game to update, degrade, and generally maintain itself over time.
Ticks are 56 seconds, think 9 in a row, then a long tic, which is 70 + seconds. Net effect is every ten tics take 600 seconds. (Too lazy to do math).
That’s good to know!! Thanks, Umar.
